Quantel and Pathfire demonstrate
better broadcast workflow at NAB
Leaders in digital news production and distribution
announce strategic alliance
Atlanta, GA, April 23, 2006 -
At NAB2006, Quantel and Pathfire will demonstrate
how broadcasters can enjoy a shorter, faster
and more collaborative workflow by the integration
of the companies' synergistic digital news technologies.
Pathfire's Digital Media Gateway
(DMG) is an automated digital IP-multicast distribution
system that allows content providers to distribute
media to broadcasters who automatically receive
it in their stations. The DMG works in combination
with Quantel's sQ server to dramatically improve
the flow of relevant material to the news and/or
sports user. Linked to the sQ server via Quantel's
MXF Power Portal, users can browse, search or
preview broadcast-quality video clips right
from their desktops in an intuitive interface.
Today, no broadcast set-up is
an island; what broadcasters need is not a shoe-horned
single supplier compromise, but open connectivity
between best-of-breed systems. Newsrooms are
a constant state of chaos with journalists and
editors spending valuable time trying to locate
assets. By keeping everything file-based and
leveraging networking technology the Quantel/Pathfire
solution delivers total visibility and connectivity
from ingest to playout. This means that valuable
assets stay as pristine as they were at the
point of acquisition.
"Strategic alliances are
very important to Pathfire and our alliance
with Quantel will increase the value of our
solutions and provide added benefits to our
customers. Mutual compatibility of content in
its native format gives us limitless possibilities
for collaborative projects going forward,"
said Jamie Meyer, Pathfire's Product Manager,
Stations and Groups.
Norman Rouse, Quantel's Group
Marketing Manager - News, Sports and Graphics
added, "The ease with which our server-based
news systems integrate with Pathfire's DMG has
vindicated our decision to design our generationQ
news systems from the ground up. We use an industry
standard database (ISA), standard IT infrastructures
where appropriate and have a company culture
here at Quantel which allows us to work closely
with companies such as Pathfire and react swiftly
and positively to market demands. We consider
Pathfire to be a leading provider of digital
content distribution systems, and by partnering
with them and supporting open industry standards,
we can deliver a total solution that is much
greater then the sum of its parts - both in
productivity and in the value it adds to the
broadcaster's business."
