Point-to-Point Content Distribution Solution
ATLANTA, GA April 7, 2006 -- Pathfire,
the leading provider of digital content distribution
and management solutions for the broadcast,
media & entertainment industries, has announced
an agreement with Turner Broadcasting System,
Inc. (TBS, Inc.), for the implementation of
multiple Pathfire Direct systems. Turner will
use Pathfire Direct to move content between
its Buenos Aires, Argentina and Atlanta, Georgia
locations.
TBS, Inc., a Time Warner Company,
is one of the largest broadcasters in Latin
America. Recently, Turner has migrated its Latin
American broadcast services from its headquarters
in Atlanta to a new facility in Buenos Aires,
Argentina. Turner originates eleven network
feeds for Latin America directly from Buenos
Aires.
Utilizing Pathfire Direct, Turner
Broadcasting will move numerous hours of content
each day between Atlanta, where the content
is produced and Buenos Aires, where it is broadcast.
Pathfire Direct allows TBS, Inc. to move digitized
files over IP-enabled terrestrial networks.
By managing the distribution of files, Turner
Broadcasting will eliminate the costs associated
with linear satellite transmission or tape delivery
and also reduce the time required to distribute
content.
Pathfire Direct's use of the advanced
encoding algorithms enables TBS to move broadcast
quality content quickly, reliably, and efficiently
between its locations. Utilizing transcoding
methodology, pre-encoded content is maintained
in the appropriate file format, whether needed
for transport or for playout. Pathfire Direct
also enables the simple ingest of content from
tape, when encoding is required. The Pathfire
Direct system also interfaces with Turner Broadcasting's
automation system to facilitate a "hands-free"
distribution and receipt of content.
"We are thrilled Turner has
selected Pathfire Direct for their international
content distribution," said Brad Ferris,
Vice President of Business Development for Pathfire.
"Their file-based operations in Buenos
Aires are complemented by Pathfire Direct's
file distribution capabilities. The advanced
operations seamlessly connect their automation,
distribution, and asset management systems to
enhance their production workflow and content
playout".
